Brandon Dawson awarded DFA Scholarship for 2016

The Middletown FFA chapter’s forestry team – (from left) Laura Melancon, Brandon Dawson, Alana Hodge, Lauren Berry and their instructor Jeffrey Billings – were recognized at the annual meeting of the Delaware Forestry Association. The team ranked in the top ten at the 88th National FFA Convention & Expo in Louisville, KY. with Dawson placing fourth in the individual competition in the entire United States.

Middletown FFA advisor Jeff Billings and the rest of the FFA family show their support at the Delaware State Fair for Brandon Dawson’s $1000 scholarship award from the Delaware Forestry Association. Brandon will attend Duke University.

Brandon Dawson, a graduating senior from Middletown High School who plans to attend Duke University, received the Delaware Forestry Association’s 2016 scholarship at the Delaware State Fair. Governor Jack Markell joined DFA board member Brian Michalski and President Alex Fignar in presenting the check.

Brandon was part of the outstanding Middletown FFA team that placed highly in the Forestry Career Development Event at the 2015 FFA National Convention & Expo in Louisville, KY. Brandon ranked in the top five nationwide in the individual competition. He plants to pursue a degree in environmental science and forestry at Duke.

The Delaware Forestry Association supports educational opportunities for young people to learn about natural resources management. DFA also supports the Delaware Envirothon, an annual contest where teams of high school students compete to demonstrate their knowledge of a wide range of environmental topics.
